It’s late November, and here at Visbids our minds have turned to all things Christmas.For all the entertainment sure to come in the coming weeks, we have a gorgeous set of Coalport china in their classic “Elite Gold” pattern. Produced in the 70’s and 80’s, and now discontinued, it’s timeless in its simplicity. With a white background and gold rim, it would be the perfect setting for a yuletide table. If your parties run to the less formal – and wilder!- you may want to consider our Grindley Duraline hotelware plates.Made for the commercial trade, these ironstone plates, bowls and cups and saucers are nearly indestructible. With over 30 dinner plates, they will feed a crowd, and are more environmentally friendly – and classier -than paper plates.
Our vintage feather Christmas tree is a tradition, like so many of our Christmas favourites, which originated in Germany in the 1800’s. Rather than harvesting trees, or cutting the tops off mature trees as had been the custom, feather trees were a means of combating the increasing deforestation which was becoming a problem in the mid 1800’s. These trees were crafted to resemble the white pines that grew in that part of Europe, and were typically made of goose feathers. Our table top tree, with its slim, widely spaced branches, is the perfect way to display treasured ornaments.
From decorating your home, to adorning yourself, we have a few pieces of fine jewellery. Our strand of Tahitian pearls is a classic. In subtle shades of gold, silver and blue,, with a diamond clasp, pearls are the perfect compliment to any outfit, formal or casual. Our vintage Must de Cartier tank watch is from the 70’s, and a departure from the gilded jewellery on which Cartier built its reputation. Sleek and spare, with zero frills, it is a model of restrained design, with a simple blue jewel crown its only adornment.
We all have at least a few Christmas presents to buy, and auctions are the perfect alternative to shopping on Amazon – not to mention a lot more fun!
