Over the past months we have been collecting and setting aside unique items for a special holiday sale.  Whether you are looking to buy a gift for someone special or treat yourself here is your opportunity to do so.

Some of our consignors are world travellers.  Their collections represent the fascination that they had with places they visited.  We have in our auction stamps from around the world, paper currency and coins from many countries.  There are a number of stamp albums, full of early stamps.  Hours of collecting fun and research for stamp collectors.   One coin highlight is the silver Magyar 1000 ft from Hungary. Another special coin is the 1967 Canadian $20 gold piece.  These would make special gifts or add to a collection. There are many other coins some dating back to the 17th C. While we have silver and gold unfortunately there is no frankincense and myrrh.

While this auction doesn’t have a lot of folk art there are a few pieces by listed folk artists.  There is a church model attributed to Fenton Dukeshire, from Wolfville, NS complete with the pastor at his pulpit. Another exciting lot is the coffee set carved in pine by noted artist Bubbie Mooers, NS whose work is in the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

For the jewellery collector there are gold rings, precious gemstones, and artisanal one-of a kind pieces. One very unusual pendant features a carved bone female head with downcast eyes, hinged sterling torso inset with a large pearl, atop a moss agate body, the hinge opens to reveal a tiny discrete secret compartment. It is but one of a few fascinating pieces of jewellery.  There are gold rings, loose gemstones that can be made into rings or pendants or earrings, anything your imagination can create.

It is the season to celebrate the child in all of us. We have several types of toys from plush bears, yes-no monkeys, key-wind toys, to toy trains.  In addition, we have a hand-built ladder truck from the early 20th C.

So much of our world today revolves around electronics, fantasy games, where kids and adults engage in role playing, quests, simulated warfare, etc.  In simpler times kids and adults were entertained playing board games, and duelling over table top games like hockey.  One collector has offered an array of early table top hockey games.  It is fascinating to see the evolution from the most primitive two player games, to wooden games, to tin games.  Donald Munro invented the table top game in 1932 making the first games as Christmas presents for his children during the hard years of the Great Depression.  It should not be overlooked that his wife hand crocheted the nets.  There is one example of his and her handiwork along with several other scarce hockey games in this auction.  A return to simpler times.

This auction contains an extensive collection of Star Trek material provided by Dr. Cliff Cunningham.  He is a distinguished planetary scientist and historian of astronomy, known for his extensive collection of Star Wars and Star Trek figures, memorabilia, action figures, calendars, magazines, comics, chess sets, paintings, and posters.  Dr. Cunningham’s interest in Star Wars and Star Trek collecting complements his academic pursuits, highlighting his diverse interests and dedication to preserving cultural artifacts. Dr. Cliff Cunningham is a distinguished planetary scientist and historian of astronomy. He is a Research Fellow at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) in Australia and an acknowledged expert on the 19th-century study of asteroids. Dr. Cunningham has written or edited 15 books, including seven dedicated solely to asteroids.
