Country Antiques and Folk Art

The core of the auction consists of items from four privately held collections. The first collection focuses on folk art, with numerous carved and painted Quebec horse and wagon figures, carriages, and plows. These pieces reflect the artistry and daily life of past communities, serving both functional and decorative purposes.

Among the offerings are carvings by Ontario folk artist Robert McCairns, who immigrated to Canada in 1923. His works range from lifelike bird carvings, such as a detailed crow, to more traditional folk art pieces. The auction also includes various bird and fish decoy carvings, representing both simple working decoys and more elaborate pieces, such as a detailed pintail by Evans painted by Sinclair.

Niagara Peninsula Farm Collection

The second collection originates from a farm in the Niagara Peninsula and features artifacts with untouched, original surfaces. Items include pails and buckets, some with unique designs, as well as repaired and well-used wooden chopping bowls. These pieces exemplify the resourcefulness and practicality of rural life, where objects were preserved and reused.

Mona Carroll Estate Collection

The third collection was inherited from legendary dealer Mona Carroll, who passed away in 1998. Notable items from her estate include two outstanding corner cupboards, a chair table, and several pine furniture pieces, each identified in the auction catalogue.

Indigenous Artifacts

The fourth collection comprises artifacts from long-time collectors of Indigenous art. The auction offers baskets from the Salish Nation, pottery from the Hopi and San Ildefonso, early baskets from Southwestern nations, Plains knife sheaths, Cree and Six Nations gauntlets, and moccasins from various regions. Also featured are fetishes and elaborate awl cases, with most items dating from the 19th to early 20th century.

Additional Highlights

Collectors will also find a selection of vintage men’s watches from brands such as Hamilton, Tissot, and Omega. A family-owned oil painting by Richard Jack, RCA, depicting a landscape of the Eastern Townships, is included in the auction. Authenticated by a relative, this piece represents a departure from Jack’s traditional portrait work. Additionally, a range of professionally appraised gemstones is available, each accompanied by a detailed description, including clarity, cut, and a signed appraisal.
