One of the highlights of our current auction is lot #9, an original Swed Master Workshop brass and silver menorah. With a workshop in Jerusalem and retail outlet in Manhattan, Yossi Swed is the third generation of a Jerusalem family of craftsmen. Specializing in Judaic works of art, all pieces are a limited edition, and crafted using a patented process in which no pieces are soldered, but instead assembled according to an exacting engineering process, which allows for easy cleaning and polishing. This “house form” menorah, with hinged glass doors, is one of their earlier pieces, numbered 127/200. Truly a work of art, it is of heirloom quality, destined to be passed on through generations.
Lot #2, a Lalique eagle, or “Tete d’Aigle” hood ornament is spectacular. R. Lalique produced 30 types of pressed glass hood ornaments, or car mascots, to adorn the radiator caps of the affluent during the 20’s and 30’s.Sharply defined and imposing, the eagle head, introduced in 1927, is a masterpiece of Art Deco design. Its infamous history includes the appropriation of the Tete d’Aigle, which mirrored Nazi party imagery, by the Germans during WWII, as a hood ornament for their vehicles. In its more benign incarnation, as a unique paperweight or display piece, it is a real find for the car mascot aficionado.
Once again we are pleased to present a large selection of models. From handcrafted sailing and motor boats, some antique and in glass and wooden display cases, to new in the box, high end European models, to tiny mid century electric boat and airplane model engines, they span a wide range. We have both already constructed Pocher models, as well as several in unopened boxes. An Italian company, established by Arnaldo Pocher in 1966, when he released his first model kit of the Fiat 130 HP F2, these models are recognised as some of the most complex and detailed automobile kits ever made. Made from premium die cast metal and ready painted, these are not toys, but incredibly intricate creations, often with over 2000 pieces, and functioning windows, doors and steering columns.
The precision diecast model of a Corvette engine, lot 61, features all of the detail and quality the Franklin MInt has become known for. This engine comes complete with a branded stand and its original tag. Our original K&O Evinrude boat motor, lot 58A, in its original box, and with original paperwork, was produced in Japan during the 50’s and 60’s, and imported, branded and distributed by K&O Models in Van Nuys, California. The “Big Twin” is in like new condition and appears to have never been used.
Truly unusual are the four miniature Austrian pinfire rifles and revolvers, lots 185-188, recognized as the smallest fully functional guns in the world. These tiny models use specialized 2 mm pinfire blanks or mini flares. The revolvers, made by Xythos, are plated, with plastic grips and the rifles are nickle plated with wood sided butts and bayonets, stamped “Austria”.
